Community Pediatrics in Beaver Dam has been acquired by UW Health and will be renamed UW Health Kids Beaver Dam Clinic in November.
“We look forward to expanding the care we provide to our pediatric patients and their families in the community of Beaver Dam,” said Wendy Adams, UW Health vice president of primary care.
Community Pediatrics was the first pediatrics office in Beaver Dam and was opened by Dr. Betsy Peterson in 2005. Dr. Jay Miesfeld became her partner in 2011. It now serves more than 4,000 children in the 4,000-square-foot leased facility at 109 Warren St.
“We are excited to be joining UW Health and gaining access to the incredible resources they can provide to our community,” Peterson said.
The team at Community Pediatrics will remain the same, and it will stay at the same location, Peterson said. The insurances accepted should also be the same.
“One important thing is we will still be able to accept Dean Insurance,” Peterson said, adding UW Health has a contract with Dean Insurance for its Beaver Dam locations.
Peterson said they will have easier access to communicate with UW Health specialists as well as access to resources, which will include adding a behavioral health clinician in the Beaver Dam clinic.
“We will be able to have a therapist right here so if something comes up in the office, we will be able to walk them over to meet the therapist,” Peterson said.
It is the model UW Health uses for its primary care offices, Miesfeld said.
Peterson said they will be switching to the UW Health computer system, which will allow people to contact them on MyChart.
“It will be a little more streamlined for those who have a UW specialist caring for their kids,” Miesfeld said.
“We are excited,” Peterson said. “We think this is going to be a great opportunity for the community for long term support. UW has been around for ever and is part of the state government.”
Community Pediatrics provides comprehensive primary care for newborns to young adults. The practice currently has has three pediatricians, one advanced practice provider and clinical and administrative staff. It will officially become a UW Health facility on Nov. 1.
Patients have been contacted directly with details on the transition.
